Since 1979, EFFY Hematian has been designing some of the most distinctive jewelry in the world. EFFY has a passion for exquisite craftsmanship, attention to detail, and quality that has quickly made it the largest jewelry manufacturer in the United States. Essentially, EFFY’s business is rooted in family and community. In 2016, we expanded our family into the cruise line industry and today have independent boutiques on 7 of the world’s major cruise lines: Royal Caribbean, Carnival, Celebrity, Princess Cruises, NCL, MSC, and Holland America.

Why Work at EFFY?


The base salary for entry-level positions is $1250 (non-negotiable). Additionally, there are commissions, with a percentage that increases as goals are met, and earning potential is unlimited, starting from $1.

Contracts are for 6 months, and crew members will share cabins with essential amenities, such as a bathroom. No housing, food, laundry, etc. costs are charged on board. Internet is available at a cost.

Requirements to Work at EFFY

  • Must be 21 years or older.
  • Candidates/new employees must purchase their own uniforms according to EFFY standards and the guidelines of the cruise line they have been selected for.
  • People with non-traditional and diverse backgrounds and interests are welcome, such as: Actors/Performers, comedians, tour guides, hospitality industry professionals, presenters, instructors, and also real estate professionals.
  • Must have a very good command of the English language.
  • Must possess a service-oriented attitude and commitment to their work.
  • Experience with jewelry or onboard in departments that sell products (not mandatory).
  • Public speaking skills.

Contractual Conditions for EFFY


The paperwork varies by cruise line, but generally, the following is required:

  • C1D Visa.
  • Medical exam (if required by the cruise).
  • Police Clearance.
  • STCW Certificates (MSC requires a complete set of certificates obtained on land; all other cruise lines we work with accept online courses or completion of the course onboard after embarkation).
  • Seaman’s Book (if required by the cruise).
  • We do not reimburse paperwork costs but cover all travel expenses.

  • Sales Associates: Assist passengers in finding products in the ship’s stores, provide exceptional customer service, and promote sales to enhance the onboard shopping experience.
  • Jewelry Specialist: Advise passengers on purchasing fine jewelry onboard, offering trends, guiding their searches, and creating a high-quality shopping experience.

How to Apply for a Cruise Job?

  • Application: Complete the form and CV in English in detail. Include your full name as it appears on your passport, your most recent work experiences with dates and responsibilities. Apply for only one position and check the requirements of available vacancies.
  • Interview: If you meet the profile, you will be contacted for an interview in English. You may be evaluated for different vacancies. Some positions require a second interview with the cruise company.
  • Pre-Embarkation: Once approved, you will receive a job offer and hiring conditions. You will need to complete documentation and certifications such as visas and medical exams.
  • Embarkation: You will be assigned an embarkation date and receive details about flights, emergency contacts, and everything needed for your trip.

Frequently Ask Questions

What is a C1/D visa?
Known as a seafarer’s visa, some nationalities require this visa to work onboard a ship and travel to certain countries. It generally lasts between two to five years. You will need to schedule an appointment at your nearest U.S. embassy, and your hiring agency will provide you with all the necessary documentation.

How do I obtain a medical certificate?
This detailed medical exam is the responsibility of the employee and must be conducted at one of the medical facilities recommended by the cruise lines. Once completed and approved by our medical department, you will be authorized to travel and work onboard.

How do I get to the ship and back home?
EFFY covers travel expenses; you will be assigned a means of transportation to get to the ship where you will work.

How long will I be onboard?
The duration of contracts varies by position, typically between four to ten months. After each contract, approximately 60 days of vacation are granted before the next one. Daily working hours depend on the position, but you are expected to work seven days a week, between 10 to 13 hours a day.

Is there a curfew?
There is no established curfew. However, crew members who are out late are expected to be respectful to other crew members and nearby guests.

What if I get sick while working onboard?
All crew members are medically covered onboard and can visit the Medical Clinic for health issues.
