Important info: Seafarer medical fitness exam

Dear crew member: we are looking forward to welcoming you on board! We know this is a busy time for you, with lots to do. We want your joining experience to go as smoothly as possible, so we want to highlight two important steps you should be taking as you prepare to depart to your ship.

SCHEDULE YOUR SEAFARER MEDICAL FITNESS EXAM

We’ve simplified the Seafarer Medical Fitness Exam, which is required for all seafaring crew members. You will not be allowed to join your ship without a valid medical certificate, so be sure to schedule your exam as soon as possible (your talent partner can help you do this).

The exam usually takes less than 4 hours and includes a full physical with blood pressure, weight, eyesight, hearing, and dental check. Additional tests such as blood or urine tests, chest X-Ray, or electrocardiogram may be required. Those who complete the exam and are deemed “fit” will receive a Seafarer Medical Fitness Certificate, usually valid for two years.

The attached document provides additional, detailed information. Talk to your talent partner if you have questions or need help.

CONFIRM YOUR AIR TRAVEL

We will book your flights and arrange tickets for you; however, cancelled flights or ticketing errors do happen and can sometimes leave crew members stranded at the airport. To avoid this happening to you, we strongly encourage you to confirm your flights and tickets at least 48 hours prior to your scheduled departure. You can do this through the airline’s website, through a travel app of your choice, or by contacting the airline directly. If you need help:

    • Prior to your departure, your talent partner should help you with any questions or concerns.
    • If you have already departed and are experiencing an issue, contact Travel Services anytime by calling 1-206-262-5800, then selecting option 1 (you can make this call for FREE using the WhatsApp Messaging app).
