Frequently Asked Questions

What is a C1/D visa?
Known as a seaman’s visa, some nationalities require this visa to work aboard a ship and travel to certain countries. Generally, it lasts between two and five years. You will need to schedule an appointment at your nearest U.S. embassy, and your recruitment agency will provide you with all the necessary documentation.

How do I obtain a medical certificate?
This detailed medical examination is the employee’s responsibility and must be performed at one of the medical facilities recommended by Princess. Please consult us to find out which institutions in your country can perform this. Once completed and approved by our medical department, you will be authorized to travel and work onboard.

Do I need travel insurance?
Although you will be medically covered in Los Angeles and onboard, it is recommended to acquire basic travel insurance to cover potential loss of luggage or injuries during activities on land.

How do I get to the ship and back home?
At the beginning of each contract, Princess Cruises arranges flights from your designated airport to the assigned ship, and at the end of the contract, they handle your transportation back home. It is your responsibility to get to the airport, but from there, necessary transfers and accommodations to reach the ship and return home are provided.

How long will I be onboard?
The duration of contracts varies depending on the position, generally between four and ten months. After each contract, approximately 60 days of vacation are granted before the next one. The daily work schedule depends on the position, but you are expected to work seven days a week, between 10 and 13 hours a day.

Is there a curfew?
There is no established curfew. However, crew members who are out late are expected to be respectful of other members and nearby guests.

Can I bring a family member or friend onboard?
Crew members who meet certain seniority requirements can request the “family travel” benefit, which allows relatives to travel onboard for a limited time. Some restrictions may apply.

What if I get sick while working onboard?
All crew members are medically covered onboard and can visit the Medical Clinic for health issues. If you need to disembark for medical reasons, Princess will arrange for your transportation to a medical facility on land and organize your repatriation.
