Seabourn Pursuit’s Historic Christening Ceremony

On June 29, 2024, Seabourn marked a historic milestone with the christening their newest expedition ship, Seabourn Pursuit, at Ngula Jar Island, Australia. This event was the first time traditional owners, the Wunambal Gaambera, named a ship, marking the start of a sustainable partnership.

Guests experienced a rich immersion in Aboriginal culture with a welcome and smoking ceremony, traditional dances, and visits to ancient rock art sites. Artworks by Wunambal Gaambera artists were also displayed and sold on board.

The naming ceremony included blessings in both Wunambal Gaambera language and English. A special bottle crafted from sugar and Ngula Jar Island sand was used to christen the ship, celebrated with cheers from guests and crew on board and on Zodiacs.

This event highlighted the transformative power of travel and the deep connections it fosters.
